The divorced mother Yoon-hee raises her teenage daughter Sae-bom in the Korean countryside. Sae-bom discovers a love letter addressed to her mother, written by Yoon-hee's female former classmate Jun. Sae-bom is well-aware of her mother's intense loneliness, and she decides to do something about it. After her graduation from high school, Sae-bom convinces her mother that they should take a shared holiday to Japan, where Jun lives. The mother and daughter duo track down Jun to the snowy village of Otaru, but Yoon-hee is too timid to speak to her former love interest. Sae-bom decides to introduce herself to Yun, while keeping her mother's presence in the village. She asks both her mother and Jun to meet her at a certain location, arranging the first meeting of the two adult women in decades. Past letters reveal that Yoon-hee always loved Jun, but she was pressured into an arranged marriage by her family. She feels no shame for her attraction to another woman.
